Who are we?

Purposes of the 9/11 Truth Movement

Why should we look for the truth on the events of 9/11?

The tragic and criminal events of September 11, 2001, have been used to justify a host of measures and policies which have violated international law and human rights. Among such measures are the bombing, invasion and occupation of Afghanistan and Iraq; the threat of more wars of aggression; increased surveillance of the public; unprecedented military expenditures in peacetime; intergovernmental collusion in subcontracting torture; creeping governmental secrecy; and the creation of public fear by bogus terror scares. The events of September 11, 2001 have not only affected the direct victims but the entire world community. The direct victims of this mass murder, the American people and the peoples of the world are morally and legally entitled to the truth.

The events of 9/11 have not been properly investigated

The events of September 11, 2001 have not been properly investigated by the U.S. authorities. In fact, the U.S. authorities have openly declared their reluctance or even opposition to a proper investigation of the mass murder committed on that day. The U.S. authorities have not, either, produced evidence to prove their allegations regarding those who are accused of having committed his mass murder, such as the 19 alleged hijackers and Osama bin Laden. More than five years have elapsed since these events. Yet no evidence has been presented to prove the guilt of anyone and no one has been charged for this crime. This alone ought to raise disturbing questions.

The emergence of the worldwide 9/11 Truth Movement

The above facts - and many other facts - have prompted concerned citizens in many countries to question the official account on the events of September 11, 2001 (shorthand 9/11). Numerous individuals have attempted to investigate, on their own, the events of 9/11, using all available public records, including media reports, official documents and unpublished testimonies by eye-witnesses. This type of investigation, carried out on a shoestring, without access to classified information and without the power to issue subpoenas, cannot obviously supplant a proper criminal investigation. It must be emphasized, however, that most if not all of these amateur investigators, carried out their tasks without any vested interest and sometimes at substantial risk for their career. However, this investigation has already yielded a mountain of facts which substantially challenge the official account on 9/11. A substantial number of Americans believe now that their government had either foreknowledge of the events and let them happen (as a useful pretext for the measures subsequently taken) or has actually participated in carrying out this mass murder. Outside the United States, a growing percentage of the public believes that the U.S. government was involved in this mass murder. Mass media have routinely designated such beliefs as "conspiracy theories".

The distinction between seeking the truth and speculative theories

The 9/11 Truth Movement is a tentative name given to the various activities and investigations carried out by independent individuals and groups in finding out what actually happened on 9/11. The common denominator of all these activities is the wish to have the full truth revealed on these events. A distinction must be made between the documentation of facts, on one hand, and the recourse to speculative theories regarding what may have really occurred on 9/11, on the other. The 9/11 Truth Movement is essentially focussing on determining facts, while some 9/11 truth activists attempt to present scenarios on what might have happened. These activities are not mutually exclusive but are nevertheless distinct. The label "conspiracy theories" is an attempt to discredit all those who seek the truth on the events of 9/11 and to intimidate everyone who questions the official account. The label "conspiracy theory" is of course applicable to the official story because according to that story, a group of Muslim terrorists conspired in planning the mass murder. The question is therefore which "conspiracy theory" is more plausible, taking all facts into account.

The positive contribution of the 9/11 Truth Movement to society

The work of 9/11 truth seekers is a valuable contribution not only to the families of the victims (who are entitled to know the truth about these events), but to democracy, peace and justice: To democracy by virtue of the need to ensure government accountability and transparency; to peace by questioning the justifications for the wars against Afghanistan and Iraq; to justice by seeking to positively identify all those who contributed to the mass murder of 9/11 and ensure their prosecution. In this respect, the 9/11 Truth Movement has substituted itself to the governments of U.N. member states, who have miserably failed to carry out their collective duty to ensure a full investigation of this crime against humanity and the prosecution of the criminals.
